KBDI Hits Just the Right Note in January!

Written by Sally Wicks

MUSIC NOTES:

KBDI kicks off the New Year on a musical note, striking harmonious chords with our members.

Stay in on New Year’s Eve and feast on the 7-part marathon of the popular PBS series, THE BLUES, which will run from 5:30pm to 6:05am. Then relax and enjoy on New Year’s Day, with a complete airing of the 6-part series BROADWAY: THE AMERICAN MUSICAL from 12 noon to 6pm. Just in case football and parades conflict with viewing BROADWAY: THE AMERICAN MUSICAL, the series encores the first three Sundays in January, with back-to-back episodes airing at 7:00pm & 8:00pm.

And don’t be fooled by it’s title, LOVE AND MURDER is actually a lustrous and lusty ballet, from one of California’s finest modern dance companies, Malashock Dance. Intriguingly set in a hospital for the criminally insane, characters take turns detailing the crimes of passion and misdeeds through daring and highly stylized choreography. LOVE AND MURDER airs Saturday January 7th at 10:30pm.

Even more music is on the way with the BURIED ALIVE IN THE BLUES. This program focuses on a generation of Chicago blues artists who learned their craft at the feet of the masters. Included are six full-length song performances plus interviews with a band that is comprised of six legends of the genre:  Barry Goldberg, Nick “The Greek” Gravenites, Harvey “the Snake” Mandel, Tracy Nelson, Sam Lay, and Corky Siegel. BURIED ALIVE IN THE BLUES premieres Sunday, January 8th from 9:00-10:30pm.

KBDI has also listened to its members about wanting more music on Tuesday nights! So starting January 10th, the popular series SOUNDSTAGE, which airs Tuesdays at 7:00pm, will be followed by AUSTIN CITY LIMITS at 8:00pm.

LOCAL PRODUCTION TO PREMIERE ON KBDI:

KBDI is proud to present the broadcast premiere of local producer Neil Slade’s latest work, AN AMAZING BRAIN ADVENTURE, on Saturday, January 7th at 9:00pm. Part documentary, part fiction, AN AMAZING BRAIN ADVENTURE equals pure fun. Consisting of three parts within the 90-minute program, this unique program is suitable for all ages.

NEW SERIES FROM ACCLAIMED PRODUCER DAVID SUTHERLAND

On Saturday January 21st thru Monday January 23rd, KBDI presents FRONTLINE: COUNTRY BOYS by acclaimed Producer David Sutherland (renowned for the PBS series THE FARMER'S WIFE).   Over these three consecutive nights, viewers will come to know Cody Perkins and Chris Johnson, two teenaged boys coming of age in eastern Kentucky’s Appalachian hills. Filmed over three years (1999-2002), the six-hour documentary tracks the dramatic stories of Chris and Cody from ages 15 to 18.

We hope you enjoy all the fine programming KBDI has to offer this month!
