Written by Julie Crook

KBDI has converted its schedule to programming “blocks.” By scheduling similar programs back-to-back, KBDI offers viewers a chance to watch a number of their favorite shows at one time.

Many programming blocks have been expanded and a number of series have moved. Some highlights of the new schedule include:

  • Local Public Affairs now air on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8pm (KBDI’s new series Studio 12 will air on Wednesdays, while Colorado Inside Out is moving to Thursdays).
  • New international news programs such as Russia Today and France 24 have been added to the schedule.
  • BBC World News now airs seven days a week at 6:30pm.
  • Democracy Now! is moving to 5:30pm weekdays.
  • The Saturday and Sunday mornings kid’s block includes an abundance of new programs.
  • A series of Spanish-language programs now airs Saturdays from 11am to 2pm.

KBDI: Cultivating IDEAS

Confluence Park, Platte Valley downtown Denver, Labor Day Weekend

“At night over rivers and bridges…”
A fragment of some lyric pings around in my head as I savor one of those quintessential Colorado moments: that point at which one of the last remaining arid blasts of Summer sun give way to the first of many brisk evenings of early Autumn.

Seeing these two merging rivers, flowing along the meager banks which gave rise to the improbable idea of building a city here, as the water flows I contemplate:  What lies downstream?  What is ahead?

The same question echoes for all of us really. Our landscape appears to shift daily.

But as the earth redirects itself this Autumn, certain rhythms hold true:

Farmers downstream prepare their harvests, plan their next crop rotations, and till their soil, for a fertile spring.

KBDI is also part of this cycle. With the changing season, comes a change of direction in our offerings. Our programming and schedule have changed, but occasionally the barn also needs a new coat of paint, and so our post-production team has created a stylish new on-air look. Sure these changes may lead to frustrations. But any decent bowl of green chile has a little burn to it, doesn’t it? These measures aren’t taken lightly. One thing is certain, this year’s harvest will be diverse, but our eyes continue to be on the horizon for the digital future.

These waters at my feet will hydrate some hard grains of winter wheat somewhere Northeast of here, and KBDI’s offerings will nourish anywhere and by any means they are received.
