My wife and I actually attended the premier of the documentary on Wednesday night. We had a spirited discussion following the event. I feel that the film takes the populist, Michael Moore approach in demonizing the "evil, big business boogie man". Fact is in a free market, business, naturally will try to make a profit. The demon in this film, or in markets for that matter, is corrupt government. If a corrupt government official, looking for financial, campaign or other gain doesn't exist, than the problem of "big biz" stepping on the little guy does not exist. Let's look at the real root cause, and correct it. Government is the bad guy here, and usually is. Jerry Koerber
health care show misinformation

Mr. Caldera, Congratulations on an interesting show on health care. Unfortunately, your guest Linda Gorman from the Independence Institute proved to be a wellspring of misinformation. For starters, it's quite well known that the cost of uncompensated care is $900 to $1,000 per insured family per year, not the $70 per person she claims. She misrepresented the health care legislation many times, though I will give her credit for pointing out the foibles of the Massachusetts insurance mandate. It really helps to have correct information. Www.pnhp.org is the gold standard for health care reform data. Cover Colorado is not meeting the needs of the state because of its excessive cost, as the newspaper article pointed out. It costs about $25,000 a year to insure and pay deductibles and out of pocket costs for a relatively ill person, so it is an option only for the relatively wealthy ill population. Most of my patients don't have that much income, much less that amount for health care. Please do more programs on health care. We need to better inform people. Unfortunately there is so much misinformation out there that people are really scared. thanks again, Diane Lucas, MD, PhD
